2018-19 Enrollment

We highly recommend all prospective students attend our Information Night on December 7.

For students who reside within the Stony Creek or Ute Meadows elementary school boundaries, Deer Creek is the assigned or “home” neighborhood middle school. This is also true of any student who lives in the Stony Creek or Ute Meadows areas but attends a different elementary school. For these students, enrollment at Deer Creek is guaranteed. We request that these students use the Program Selection Form to choose which program they want to be in -- STEM or Humanities -- however, program assignment is limited by the availability of seats.

For students who reside outside of the Stony Creek or Ute Meadows school boundaries, please complete the online choice enrollment application. Note: We do not anticipate any choice enrollment openings in the 7th or 8th grade STEM program.

Please note that there is a student response question as part of all the enrollment forms. To help your student prepare a response, this is the question: In 200 words or less, please share with us the reason you have chosen the program you selected.

The choice of academic program at Deer Creek is an important decision for incoming 6th grade students. We encourage students and their families to read carefully through the information describing the STEM and Humanities programs to gain an understanding of their similarities and differences.

Information Night is designed to give students and families a better sense of the programs and opportunities at Deer Creek through interaction with staff and current students. Information sessions are combined with showcase classrooms to not only give you a better sense of what the Humanities and STEM programs are like, but to experience a wide variety of our elective programs. A passport will guide you through your evening, where you can learn about the programs available to 6th and 7th graders, visit classrooms, and talk to teachers and students.

Choice Enrollment Process

For residents outside of the Deer Creek area, an online choice-enrollment application is necessary. The First Round Choice Enrollment process runs from January 8 to January 31, 2018. Applications received at any time during the first round window are entered into a lottery, based on the following priorities established by Jeffco:

  1. Jeffco Resident with a currently enrolled sibling who will also be attending Deer Creek in 2018-19
  2. Jeffco Resident and child of a full-time staff member at Deer Creek
  3. Jeffco Resident and currently attending Stony Creek or Ute Meadows through choice-enrollment
  4. Any other Jeffco Resident
  5. Non-Jeffco Resident with a currently enrolled sibling who will also be attending Deer Creek in 2018-19
  6. Non-Jeffco Resident and child of a full-time staff member at Deer Creek
  7. Non-Jeffco Resident and currently attending Stony Creek or Ute Meadows through choice-enrollment
  8. Any other Non-Jeffco Resident

At the end of the first round, each application is assigned a random number. The applications are sorted by their priority level and the random number. Seats are then filled from the top of the list until the program is full. Remaining applications are placed on a wait list.

Second Round Choice Enrollment process runs from February 9 through August 31, 2018. Applications received during the second round window are added to the bottom of first round wait lists in the order the applications are received.

Jeffco busing is available to many families in the Ute Meadows and Stony Creek areas. To see if you are eligible for busing and to find the bus stop nearest your home, visit Jeffco's InfoFinder site.

For the 2018-19 school year, Jeffco will continue to provide busing to Deer Creek from the Bradford area. After the 2018-19 school year, busing will no longer be available from the Bradford area.

For choice-enrolled students, we are pleased to partner with Schoolpool, a carpool networking system. Schoolpool is a service of Way to Go, a federally funded program of the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG). It's free and there is no obligation to participate. Using a secure website, parents register to find and contact other interested Deer Creek families in their area to set up carpools. For more information about the service, visit Schoolpool. Please contact the Deer Creek office to receive the enrollment code required to join our Schoolpool group.
